Virat Kohli's captaincy for India has been terrific: Sourav Ganguly
He also gave his opinion on Shankar's selection in the World Cup squad.
Virat Kohli has come under severe scanner in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) for his captaincy playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Some of his decisions have been questioned even by the experts. But Kohli has found strong support form the former India skipper Sourav Ganguly. The man who led India to the final of the 2003 World Cup rates Kohli very highly in terms of leading the country at the highest level.
Kohli has been leading India ever since MS Dhoni stepped down from the helm in the limited-overs format. Though he has always acknowledged the veteran wicket-keeper’s support from behind the stumps, Virat has done a fair job. But in Dhoni’s absence, he has been found wanting, especially in the shortest format. Kohli looks lost most of the times and it was visible during RCB’s lacklustre IPL campaign where they have been knocked out from the ongoing season.
However, Sourav Ganguly has urged everyone to not judge Virat Kohli from his T20 captaincy and has also claimed that the 30-year-old is a better leader than him.
Kohli is better than Dada
“Exceptional. His record for India is phenomenal. Don’t judge him by his T20 captaincy; his captaincy for India has been terrific. He is better than Dada. Kohli is better than Dada,” he said while speaking exclusively to Sportskeeda. When asked about Vijay Shankar’s selection over Ambati Rayudu in India’s World Cup squad, Ganguly spoke highly of the former and felt that he will do the job for the team in England.
“Both are good. The selectors have gone for Vijay Shankar. The debate is over there. We wish him all the luck. Somebody plays and someone misses out. I feel for Ambati Rayudu, but I think Vijay Shankar will do the job. He is a good cricketer, he can bowl in those conditions. He has earned his place in the squad,” Sourav further added.
