Virat Kohli is arguably one of the cleanest hitters of the cricket ball. He doesn’t play ambitious strokes, yet manages to notch runs at a haemorrhaging rate. He moulds his game as per the demands in all the three formats of the game. In the T20 format, Kohli doesn’t prefer to hold himself back and takes the aerial route to get the scoreboard racing.

However, in the Test and ODIs, he hardly employs his aggressive approach and prefers to smash the ball along the carpet. The method has worked handsomely for the Indian skipper as he has managed to maintain consistency as far as scoring runs is concerned. India and South Africa are currently locking horns in the fourth ODI at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.

Virat Kohli has been exceptional with two tons under his belt in the first three games. He has shown composure during his stay at the crease and has managed to dent the confidence of the South African bowling attack. Nevertheless, he hardly has taken undue risks en route his jaw-dropping knocks. However, he played an outrageous shot during his stint at the crease in Johannesburg.

The stupendous shot

The shot unfolded in the third ball of the 17th over off fast-bowler Lungi Ngidi. The Proteas bowler pitched the ball up and Kohli belted it over the bowler’s head for a monstrous hit over the long-off boundary. The Indian skipper shimmied down the track and smacked the ball with sheer disdain, which left everyone in utter shock. While the shot was unexpected, it was an absolute delight to the eyes.

Virat Kohli has always exhibited a calm and composed approach while batting, an attribute which has earned him appreciations from the cricketing fraternity.
