Virender Sehwag takes a jibe at third umpire for giving Suryakumar Yadav out in the fourth T20I
Suryakumar Yadav, who came as a replacement for Ishan Kishan in the Playing XI, emerged as the wrecker-in-chief for the Men in Blue
India and England are up against each other in the fourth T20 International of the five-match series at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. It is a do-or-die game for India considering that the visitors are already leading the series by 2-1 and another victory will result in them being on the winning side.
Suryakumar Yadav, who came as a replacement for Ishan Kishan in the Playing XI, finally got a chance to exhibit his talent with the willow. Yadav emerged as the wrecker-in-chief for the Men in Blue in the first innings as he stunned the who’s who of the cricket fraternity with his scintillating knock of 57 runs in just 31 deliveries including 6 boundaries and 3 maximums at a strike rate of 183.87.
However, Surya’s first dismissal in international cricket was marred with controversy as many believed that the third-umpire was biased towards the visiting side while giving his decision and the batsman deserved to stay in the middle for some more time.
On the second ball of the 14th over by Sam Curran, Surya hit the ball in the air and it landed in the hands of Dawid Malan. But he fell on the ground along with the ball and it appeared that the ball has touched the ground. The third umpire saw the scenario from many angles and came to the conclusion that there wasn’t conclusive evidence to overturn the decision made by the on-field umpire in the favour of the fielding side
Sehwag’s take on the matter
However, the pictures of the catch quickly went viral on social media and it appears that there was enough evidence to come to the conclusion that the ball has indeed touched the ground, and thus it was not a valid dismissal. Thus, these visuals left the fans and other Indian supporters fuming as they took to Twitter to vent out their anger.
Former Indian opening batsman Virender Sehwag was no different as he posted a tweet on his official Twitter handle to take a sly dig at the umpiring standards in the ongoing match. “Third umpire while making that decision. #INDvENGt20 #suryakumar,” his tweet read.
Notably, Indian skipper Virat Kohli wasn’t also happy with the decision of the third umpire as he seemed visibly upset sitting in the dug-out.
