Virender Sehwag – The king of trolls
Virender Sehwag is a born entertainer. We all know how big an entertainer he was with a bat in his hand. After his retirement, Viru fans were like, “It’s the end of entertainment era!”. But not so quick! After his retirement, The Nawab of Najafgarh has taken Twitter to smash 4s and 6s. His witty, humorous tweets are loved by one and all! He never fails to entertain his fans. Does he?
Sehwag’s stint on Twitter was a meteoric success. It was during the period of July-August that Viru shot into fame with his hilarious tweets, particularly during Rio Olympics 2016. So far Shoaib Akhtar, Simon Doull, and many others from cricketing fraternity have been at the receiving end. But when someone tries to troll India in any way, there’s no getting away!! When Indian contingent was struggling at Rio Olympics, journalist Shobhaa De invited displeasure of many with her controversial tweet that job of Indian athletes at Olympics is just to click selfies and come back without winning anything. A few days later when Sakshi Malik won a bronze in wrestling Sehwag trolled Shobha De with a hilarious tweet saying, “Sakshi Malik kegale me ye medal kitnashobha de rahahai!”
When Piers Morgan gave an open challenge to Sehwag that he would give 1 million rupees to India as charity if India won an Olympic gold before England won a cricket world cup, Sehwag brought to his notice that India has won Olympic Gold medals in the past, but England being inventors of the game are yet to win the most prestigious trophy in cricket. So much Morgan was embarrassed that, he had to alter his tweet saying if India won “another” gold before England winning world cup that he’ll give away 1 million. And MariyappanThangevalu won a gold for India at Paralympics 2016!! Hands down Piers Morgan!! To Micheal Phelps he wrote he can challenge BappiLahiri when it comes to gold and asked Bolt to participate in F1 race with his feet and said he’d still win.
He has made birthdays of many cricketers special with his witty birthday wishes. From Sir Gary Sobbers, Shoaib Akhtar to Anil Kumble many people have been “blessed” to receive Viru’s witty birthday wishes so far! To Sobers he said, “The way you played, not many opposition cricketers would have called you ‘Sober'”! On Shoaib’s Birthday he gave a unique hashtag “#ShoaibKaBirthdayViruKiParty”. President Obama wasn’t the one to miss the list either! On Obama’s birthday Viru tweeted, “Looking at your love for children, every child will say I want a mama (uncle) like Obama!” No wonder his good mate GautamGambhir was disappointed when he got a simple happy birthday wish from Viru.
One thing for sure, be it cricket or Twitter, Sehwag will always entertain. It will be interesting to see what kind of tweets he will receive on his birthday, and what will be his reply. Here is wishing Viru Pa a very very happy birthday! Hope the coming year brings him a joy that is as high as his strike rate. Virupaaji why you are so awesome?
