Wasn’t extremely disappointed that no one bought me in the auction: Sai Kishore
He was disappointed on not being picked but isn't bogged down.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) acts a massive platform for the Indian domestic players to rub their shoulders with some of the biggest stars of the game from all over the world. Recent IPL auction saw some of the unknown players get the opportunity to be a part of the top franchises and thus get an opportunity to share the space with the biggest names in the sport. On the other hand, the auction brought disappointment to some whose names didn’t attract any bids from the 8 franchises who took part.
Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore, the 21-year-old orthodox spinner from Chennai was one of the players for whom the auction ended in disappointment. Sai Kishore took a 5-wicket haul on Wednesday in the Vijay Hazare Trophy encounter against Rajasthan. However, the win against Rajasthan didn’t help them qualify for the knockout round of the tournament.
According to the spinner, they couldn’t take wickets at crucial moments which led their ouster. “It is really good to finish with a win. I think the main reason where we lost is, we didn’t take enough wickets. We failed to stop runs and take wickets,” Sai Kishore said.
Didn’t follow the auction
He was not glued to the TV when the IPL auction was underway. When his name came up, he saw no teams show interest in signing up. In the evening, Sai Kishore went for practice and on the second day, his mother told him that he was not bought.
“I didn’t follow the auction completely. First time when my name came up, I went unsold. I had a practice that evening and later my mother told me that I went unsold,” Sai Kishore told Sportstar during the interview.
He did accept the disappointment but that didn’t last long.”I see this as a very small failure and I don’t see it as a big thing. I’m confident of what I’m and what I can do. For me it’s about giving my hundred percent every day and learning new things,” he added.
Was optimistic
Interestingly, he had a good outing in the Tamil Nadu Premier League and that’s what sparked the belief that an IPL team would grant him a contract. “I thought some team would go for me. I didn’t think it had to be Chennai Super Kings or Sunrisers. I had done really well in TNPL which was televised,” said Sai Kishore.
