Watch: Alastair Cook gets hit on the groin Joe Root sees the funny side of it: The first test of the Ashes 2015 in underway at Cardiff, England has already posted a good looking 1st innings total of 430 and will now be hoping that their bowlers get Australia out, while they still have some lead over board. This incident happened soon after the Aussies got to their 50, James Anderson after having packed David Warner back to the pavilion was bowling to Steve Smith who had just arrived at the crease; the ball moved away from the right hander and on its way took an edge off Smith’s blade.
Jimmy was really excited since he had induced the world’s number 1 test batsman into a false shot while he was yet to open his account. English skipper who is probably the best English fielder in the slips was excited too, as the cherry flew his way; but Smith could well make out that he had not covered the line of the ball completely and thus loosened the grip of his bottom hand, which ensured that the ball did not make it to the fielder.
It fell short just ahead of Cook, who dived to make it closer, to have a better chance of grabbing it. The ball bumped ahead of him and bounced off the ground hard at him again; he probably could not judge the bounce and while he was diving away, his hands could not cover the ball and hit him on the groin and by his reactions we could easily make out that the impact was really bad.
Joe Root sanding alongside him in the slips cordon, could not hold his laugh and was seen covering his mouth with the hand around to control himself; quite amusing something we would have done as well had it happened to our buddy on the field.
