Watch: Darren Sammy teasing MS Dhoni
West Indies skipper Darren Sammy has always been a bit of an enigma. A charismatic skipper of the West Indies, Sammy is the epitome of a St. Lucian. The Caribbean people are a friendly people, full of fun, frolic and pulling people’s legs from time to time. They also have an amazing knack of becoming the crowd favorites each time they are on the road with their dancing skills.
The Windies faced up to the might of the Indians in the semifinal of the World T20 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. By this time, they had become heroes in all the venues they had played in, including Mumbai. Whether it was the amazing sight of watching Chris Gayle clear the ropes with ease or Dwayne Bravo doing the champion dance, it is seldom that the Windies cease to entertain.
A few minutes before the toss, Darren Sammy, despite the mounting pressure on him, Sammy once again found a way to entertain not only himself but also the others around. However, this time, around, it was at the expense of Indian skipper MS Dhoni.
While many commends the captaincy and the leadership skills of Darren Sammy, no one even remotely gave him credit for his ‘sneaking-up’ skills. The incident occurred when the two captains were handing in their team sheets. MS Dhoni was a picture of focus while handing the team sheet. However, ‘Sneaky Sammy’ came up, out of nowhere and patted the top right shoulder of the Indian skipper. Dhoni turned to his right in a bid to respond to the call. However, by then, Sammy had made his escape, to the left of the Indian skipper, handing in his team sheet to the match referee.
The shaking hand at the end of it all ensured that it was all good after MS Dhoni had in fact caught the perpetrator. The Indians didn’t win, but at the end of the day, most cricket fans around the world got what they wanted most – entertainment.
