Ian Healy has always been a bit of an enigma. From sledging behind the stumps to putting up amazing batting performances, Healy has never failed to gain attention.

The Gabba on the 19th of December 1993 marked a special day in Australian cricket history. In spite of being the testimonial match for the great Allan Border, the match will be remembered for the antics of Ian Healy.

Sporting a long yet fake handlebar moustache and stomach, Healy bowled the first two deliveries Merv Hughes-esque. A stare and a few words too were exchanged as the great Richard Hadlee failed to score off the first two deliveries. The humor was to follow when Healy removed the moustache and stomach padding for the third delivery of the over. Impersonating former teammate Terry Alderman, Healy charged in towards Hadlee. A heave towards deep mid-wicket saw the strike rotated to the big and lanky Joel Garner.

Garner’s stay in the middle however was to be a short one as he was eventually cleaned up by former West Indian legend Malcolm Marshall (Healy). A taunt was to follow as Marshall made his way back to the pavilion.

The final two deliveries of the over saw Healy get into the slow and clam motion of Abdul Qadir. The over has thus been etched in the history of cricket. Certainly a wonderful way to sign off from the cricketing arena for former Australian skipper Allan Border.
