Watch: Impatient Brendon McCullum gets beaten and stumped
Brendon McCullum has a ferocious reputation as a batsman. The Kiwi dashers’ free-flowing batting is a thorough joy to watch but sometimes it’s always sensible to wait and give respect to the bowler before going all guns blazing against him.
McCullum is a seasoned veteran but every now and then throws away his wicket due to over-aggression. On most occasions, his aggression pays off and his team gets off to a smooth start. However, sometimes the same attributes land him and his team in early troubles just like the previous game in which he was dismissed cheaply by left-arm spinner Imad Wasim.
Brendon McCullum was out chasing the 159 runs target with his opening partner Hashim Amla. Opposition skipper Chris Gayle’s decision to start with spin paid off. Dale Steyn followed it up with yet another good over which cost them just 5 runs.
Imad Wasim continued with the third over but McCullum was in no mood to let the spinner dominate him. Unlike Amla, who dabbed single off the first ball, McCullum had lost his patience and tried to smash him right away to ease the pressure off him. Imad, however, had the advantage and was able to turn the ball straight away irrespective of the new ball. This became the decisive factor which undid the former Kiwi skipper.

After getting beaten totally by the second delivery, McCullum didn’t pay heed and just tried shrug off the turn factor by charging on the bowler. Unfortunately, Imad noticed him coming down the pitch and pitched it shorter to beat him. Sangakkara did the rest and knocked off the stumps to set McCullum on his way back.
