Watch: India U-19 Cricket Team brilliant fielding
The India U-19 Cricket Team began their world cup campaign with an impressive 79 run win over Ireland. In spite of the hard-fought win, the Indians put up an all-round performance.
On the back of Sarfaraz Ahmed’s 74 and Washington Sundar’s 62, India posted a decent total of 268/9. The Indians were sparkling the field in the initial overs as they successfully restricted the Irish to 189, thus securing an impressive 79 run win.
Apart from witnessing a wonderful win in their first match, head coach Rahul Dravid will be particularly impressed with the fielding effort put in by the side. Apart from saving a lot of runs by preventing boundaries and easy singles, the Indians were electric and sharp in their catching.
With the score at five, the Irish lost their first wicket when Stephen Doheny was run out courtesy of a direct hit. A gentle prod to cover saw skipper Ishan Kishan’s impulsive throw hit the stumps without an intervention. The second instance came a few minutes later when Armaan Jaffer’s diving throw struck the stumps directly dismissing Irish skipper Jack Tector. The best piece of instinctive slip catching was yet to come.
Adam Dennison seemed shell-shocked as he witnessed Ricky Bhui pick up a magnificent catch at first slip. Diving to his right, Rishab Pant failed to hold on to the edge from Dennison. Ricky Bhui however, present at first slip held on to the dropped catch dismissing the dangerous looking Dennison.
Rahul Dravid will be hoping that his boys replicate the fielding performance in the matches to come.
