Watch: Marcus Trescothick names his all-time XI
The classic left-handed batsman from England, Marcus Trescothick has named his all-time XI in a video posted on Lord’s Cricket Ground’s official Youtube channel. He has picked his favorite eleven among those who played with or against him or the one’s who had influenced him in his career.
Opening the batting for his eleven is the current England skipper Alastair Cook, who is “England’s best opening batsman” and the former South African skipper Graeme Smith, who “always manages to score runs, never looks the prettiest but got the job done”. Smith’s unusual batting stands made him look unorthodox, but his numbers speak for him.
One of the greatest players of all-time, former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting is the one who leads his team. Legendary batsmen Sachin Tendulkar of India and Brian Lara of West Indies accompany Ponting in the middle-order.
“(He) is the greatest player ever, changed the atmosphere of the game whenever he came into bat – especially in the subcontinent, in India. (He was) a brilliant player to play against,” Trescothick quipped about Sachin.

Speaking about his experience playing against Brian Lara, he said, “The genius of the team, Brian Lara was an absolutely phenomenal player to play against. Luckily or unluckily, I managed to bowl a few overs at him when he got 400. He sort of took the game apart and could do things no one else could do.”
Trescothick believes that the inclusion of one of the best all-rounders of world cricket, Jacques Kallis brought balance to the side. Adam Gilchrist of Australia takes the gloves, who can take the game away from the opposition quickly is at no.7.
The bowling department comprises of the legendary spinner Shane Warne and three seamers – the left-arm pace of Pakistan’s Wasim Akram, the ‘king of swing’ James Anderson from England and the legendary Australian Glenn McGrath, who never gives away anything to the batsmen.
