Watch: Mohammad Amir dismisses Brendon McCullum for a golden duck
Brendon McCullum, who was sidelined due to a back injury which he suffered during the ODI series last month against Sri Lanka had rather forgettable comeback match. The right-hander was dismissed off the first delivery he faced today.
New Zealand played Pakistan in the 3rd ODI at Auckland. The visitors chose to bat after winning the toss. Babar Azam (83 from 77) and Mohammad Hafeez (76 from 60) powered Pakistan to put up a challenging target of 291 runs for the Kiwis to chase.
The explosive opening duo of Martin Guptill and Brendon McCullum came out to bat. Azhar Ali would have hoped for an early wicket to push the New Zealanders on the back foot early on in the chase. And, Mohammad Amir did exactly the same as he dismissed the Black Caps’ skipper McCullum for a golden duck in the second over of the New Zealand’s batting innings.
Martin Guptill took the strike and played out the erratic first over of the second innings by Mohammad Irfan. Amir came over the wicket for his first over of the spell with McCullum at the strike.
Amir pitched a slightly shorter length ball at McCullum which the right-hander hooked from his chest height. It seemed that he didn’t properly connect the shot as the ball did not get to travel the distance it normally does when ‘Baz’ hooks powerfully. Mohammad Irfan standing at the deep fine leg came in running a few paces to his left and grabbed a simple catch to mark the premature end of McCullum.
