Watch: MS Dhoni’s quick hands catch Hashim Amla short of the crease: The Indian team was looking for wickets, South Africa’s regular openers Quinton de Kock and Hashim Amla were at the crease together after the management opted to open with David Miller and de Kock, but Miller got out for 33. Amla who had come in one down did not look comfortable and runs were not coming for him as fluently as he would have liked.

Batting on 5 from 14 balls he was facing India’s leggie Amit Mishra, who had until then bowled 4.3 overs conceding 18 runs without a wicket. Amla looked desperate to break the shackles and the shell he had created for himself. He reached out on a one that spun, and spun more than he had expected and covered for. The ball dodged hitting his bat and went straight into MS Dhoni’s waiting gloves.

Dhoni and his swiftness in dislodging the bails is quite well known already and like he always does, got them off in a flash. He looked confident and certain that he had his man as soon as the bails were out of the grooves. The Umpire went to the 3rd Umpire to make the decision and like Dhoni told Mishra that he had caught Amla short of his crease, the replays confirmed the same, his foot was just outside the line while Dhoni affected the stumping and the South African had to take the long walk back.

More importantly India got another breakthrough and broke a potentially threatening partnership before it could dwell into a danger.
