Watch: Rohit survives a tragic run out chance: There was no change of fortunes for India as the failed to hold their nerve in the final overs and lost the 1st ODI to South Africa, yesterday. But Rohit who played a wonderful innings had his share.

Dhoni was yet again in the center stage but could not take his team over the line in the last and the decisive over of the match.

Virat Kohli’s dismissal put the pressure back on India. However, the match was even and could have shifted its balance towards either side.

MS Dhoni was the next batsman for India. The target from here was gettable according to his standards. Morne Morkel bowled a straight delivery and Dhoni pushed the ball defensively towards point. He sees a chance to steal a quick single and immediately leaves off the blocks and calls out his partner Rohit Sharma, who wasn’t ready for it, nor was he expecting this call, and thus responded vaguely.

Sharma looked hesitant to take the run. However, Dhoni had already come halfway down the pitch. The ball had no momentum as Aaron Phagiso ran in and shot it towards the stumps. But, he missed his mark by some margin. Sensing the opportunity wicket-keeper Quinton de Cock ran in to cover the stumps, and somehow managed to grab the ball.

Even after the direct hit missed the stumps, the keeper had enough chance to disturb the timber. He made the second attempt for the run-out. While Rohit Sharma was still not in the frame. But, luck was in his favor and de Cock, despite being so close, missed the stumps. Sharma put in a desperate dive to reach the batting crease and successfully save his wicket.
