Watch: Sharp skipper Virat Kohli runs Imran Tahir out
Dhoni completed the run out after a Kohli throw and South Africa bundled out for 191.
Team India registered an emphatic win over the South African side in the virtual quarter final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. A superlative win from the men in blue now sees them qualify for the semi-final and the Proteas knocked out of the competition. In the short run chase of 191, Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan paraded along to see India home.
The match was a clear example of a perfect A game from the Indian camp. The bowlers bowled tight lines up front to keep the Protea openers in check. The middle-order of the South African batting saw a horror show with the Indian fielders ruling the roost on the day. Some exceptional field work saw two of the big batsmenn from the opposition walk back without bothering the Indian team much.
It was AB de Villiers who ran out himself first and later a miscommunication between Faf du Plessis and David Miller saw the latter being run out. These two were not the only run outs of the match. The final wicket of the innings was also a run out. It was the Indian skipper Virat Kohli who outwitted Imran Tahir in getting him run out.
The action perspired in the 45th over when Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled to JP Duminy. It was a short of length delivery from Bhuvi which the batsman pulled towards the mid-wicket region. Duminy was not so willing to give the strike to Imran Tahir.
The two batsmen completed one run and Virat Kohli ended up fumbling in the mid-wicket region. The slight fumble gave the batsmen a hope to complete the second run. But a very agile Virat Kohli quickly ran back to the ball to throw it back to MS Dhoni’s glove. Dhoni completed the run out and South Africa bundled out for 191.
