Watch: Shikhar Dhawan juggle before judging the catch to perfection
Watch: Shikhar Dhawan juggle before judging the catch to perfection: Shikhar Dhawan took one of the best catches of the World Cup 2015 so far. Rohit Sharma’s century and Suresh Raina’s 65 had taken India from 113/3 in 27 overs to 302/6 in 50 overs. While Bangladesh was looking good in their chase, they were way behind in the run rate department and had lost both of their openers in cause of that.
Mahmudullah and Shakib got together and both were gradually increasing the runrate when Mahmudullah decided to hook one of Mohd. Shami’s short ball for a six. The ball went to square leg where Dhawan positioned himself on the boundary to take the catch. The ball hit his hands and popped out while he was moving back to catch it, on the second attempt, it seemed that his left foot had touched the boundary pads, he lobbed the ball in the air, went over the boundary and came back in to complete the catch safely.
There was considerable doubt despite Dhawan’s confidence and the umpires went to the 3rd umpire for a decision. The 3rd umpire saw the replay from all possible angles and at every speed possible. The video showed no evidence of the foot touching the boundary, but it also didn’t show it not touching. The benefit of the doubt should have went to the batsman in this case, but the umpire ruled in India’s favour.
He gave Mahmudullah out and Bangladesh slipped to 73/3. Eventually they were all out for 193 and lost the match by 109 runs. The umpires were under fire for their decision of this catch and the height no-ball given by Aleem Dar in India’s batting which gave reprieve to Rohit Sharma who went on to make 137 and take India to 302 runs.
