Watch: Top 6 fielding moments in World Cup history
2. Jonty Rhodes turns into a Superman
Jonty Rhodes changed the way fielding was viewed in international cricket. He bought a sense of excitement in fielding and inspired others to become more athletic as a fielder. India can thank their current crop of fielders to Jonty as every one of them cites Rhodes as an inspiration.
This particular instance is perhaps the most recognisable and significant moment in the history of cricket. Pakistan met South Africa in the 1992 edition of the World cup and was chasing 211 for victory. Imran Khan and Inzamam had added 85 runs for the 4th wicket.
The moment came when Inzi tried to hit McMillan to the leg side and the ball hit his pad and trickled towards the most exciting fielder of the tournament. Inzi set off for a run, but was turned back by Imran, but Jonty ran up to swoop the ball and instead of throwing the ball on the stumps, ran towards them and at the last moment jumped at the stumps and demolished them. Inzamam was unable to make his ground. Pakistan was unable to make the required 56 runs off the last 5 overs.
Jonty Rhodes had made his presence made and the image of him diving towards the stumps with the ball in his hands has become the most recognisable picture in sports history.
