We are looking to introduce foreign coaches in Pakistan's domestic cricket: Ramiz Raja

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja is looking forward to introducing foreign coaches to the domestic circuit. He met the domestic cricketers in a local hotel in Lahore on Sunday to share his views on how to take Pakistan’s cricket forward.

The coaches and support staff of the domestic circuit weren’t part of the meeting. Previously, in the context of the domestic coaches, Raja had stated that the ones who will do a good job will only continue their duties. He also advised the cricketers to keep putting in the hard work and not think of taking shortcuts.

“I have come here as a cricketer and not PCB chairman. We need to improve the standard of coaching which is why we are looking to introduce foreign coaches in domestic cricket. If you want to do well as a cricketer, take the idea of shortcuts out of your mind. Performers will get opportunities so keep putting in the hard yards,” Raja said as reported by cricket Pakistan.

There had been quite a few changes in the PCB’s management ahead of the T20 World Cup. Head coach Misbah and bowling coach Waqar Younis had recently stepped down from their posts. Ramiz Raja was then appointed as the new chairman of the PCB and soon he announced that Matthew Hayden and Philander had been selected as batting and bowling consultants for the T20 World Cup.

Pakistan was scheduled to play white-ball series against New Zealand, but just a few hours before the first ODI the visitors abandoned the tour citing security threats. ECB then announced that it has too withdrawn from the men’s and women’s tours in October.

Raja was disappointed with these decisions and had stated, “I am severely disappointed in England’s withdrawal but it was expected because this western bloc gets united unfortunately and tries to back each other. There was a sense of anger because first New Zealand got away without sharing information about the threat they were facing. This (England) decision was expected but this is a lesson for us because we go out of our way to accommodate and pamper these sides when they visit.”
