West Indies fast bowler Ronsford Beaton suspended by the ICC for bowling with an action illegal
CWI is running a fast-bowling camp in Antigua which the Guyana-born player will join in order to work on his bowling and come up with a remodelled action.
Ronsford Beaton, the West Indies fast bowler has been suspended from bowling by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after he failed the assessment test of his bowling action. Beaton’s action was reported to be suspicious after the 2nd ODI match against New Zealand in December last year. The 25-year old Beaton will not be allowed to bowl in any of the domestic matches either. However, if he manages to get a permission from Cricket West Indies (CWI), he can play domestic cricket in the West Indies.
Will have to go for reassessment
CWI is running a fast-bowling camp in Antigua which the Guyana-born player will join in order to work on his bowling and come up with a remodelled action. Once he manages to modify the action, he can apply for a re-assessment.
Jimmy Adams, the director of Cricket West Indies said they will work with the bowler to fasten up the process so that he can start playing international cricket sooner.
“We are fully committed to working with Ronsford during this period of remedial work which will hopefully accelerate his successful re-admission to the professional game,” said Adams.
Notably, the fast-bowler made his international debut in the same series. In his debut match, Beaton went wicketless and West Indies lost the match by 5 wickets in the 3-match ODI series. Beaton did manage to get an international wicket in the match but West Indies yet again lost the contest. Beaton was taken to cleaners by the Kiwi batters in the 2nd ODI where he went for 60 runs in 8 overs, picking one wicket. West Indies crumbled in the run chase and were bowled out for 121 runs.
The ICC has been very strict in the recent past on the bowling actions and a number of bowlers having been sent out for a reassessment of their bowling action. Pakistan off-spinner Mohammad Hafeez recently cleared his bowling action and he can now roll his arms for Pakistan.
