Preview
After failing to impress in the T20Is, Sri Lanka played a much better brand of cricket in the Test series, as both the sides eventually ended up with a thrilling draw, where all the results were possible till as late as the last session of the fifth day. After Jason Holder’s fifer in the first innings pushed the Lankans on the back foot, the hosts solidified their position in the game, guided by their top and lower order.
Compared to the meagre score of 169 that Sri Lanka managed in the first innings, their performance was much improved in the second, when Pathum Nissanka’s century on debut, two 90s in Oshada Fernando and Niroshan Dickwella, and notable efforts from Lahiru Thirimanne and Dhanajaya de Silva took them close to 480. Nkrumah Bonner and Kyle Mayers’ partnership did bring back some memories of what West Indies recently pulled off in Bangladesh. However, Mayers’ wicket took the game towards a draw. Both Sri Lanka and West Indies will be eager to get a result in the final game to claim the series.

Captaincy picks for WI vs SL
Nkrumah Bonner (West Indies)
Nkrumah Bonner’s Test career graph has only gone upwards ever since he has announced himself at the international level. In his debut series against Bangladesh, he finished with 231 runs at a brilliant average of 57.75 with 2 half-centuries (86 and 90). In the first Test, after he was dismissed cheaply (31 from 63), he recorded his maiden and an unbeaten century (113 from 274).
Pathum Nissanka (Sri Lanka)
Pathum Nissanka has been a promising contender at the international level and after a decent T20I series. He has been able to create an impact on his debut with a century that led his team to gain a crucial lead, after a disappointing first-innings score. Nissanka’s sensational domestic record, where he averages 67.11 after 34 games (3557 runs, 14 centuries) speaks for his potential in the format.
