Afy Fletcher was at her lethal best during West Indies’ clash against Bangladesh in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup 2022. The veteran leg-spinner made the ball talk and took three wickets in the clash. However, besides her on-field heroics, Fletcher also bagged attention with her unique celebrations. She apparently dedicated her success to her seven-month-old baby boy, Audee Rennie.

The same left the fans heart whelmed as the clip went viral in no time. Immediately after taking the wickets, the 35-year-old brought out an imaginary phone-dialing gesture. She then waved at the imaginary phone, saying ‘Hi baby’ to her child. Notably, Fletcher made a comeback in cricket after giving birth to her child and her ecstasy was evident in her celebrations.

Notably, Fletcher is not the first mother to shower love on her child in the ongoing competition. Earlier, Pakistan captain Bismah Maroof did a cradle-rocking celebration by completing her half-century, dedicating it to her infant daughter, Fatima.

Afy Fletcher’s stellar spell took West Indies to stunning win

Meanwhile, Fletcher dismissed the likes of Fargana Hoque, Ritu Moni and Rumana Ahmed in the game as West Indies defended a paltry 140 against Bangladesh. Earlier in the match, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bowl at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. The likes of Salma Khatun and Nahida Akter made the ball talk as the Women in Maroon were restricted to 140/9 in their allotted 50 overs.

However, Bangladesh couldn’t cross the line, thanks to some brilliant bowling from Hayley Matthews and Afy Fletcher. While Fletcher took a three-fer, Matthews ran through Bangladesh’s batting order with a four-wicket haul. As the Women in Maroon narrowly clinched the contest by four runs, Matthews was adjudged the Player of the Match.

“We knew we did not have enough runs on the board, so we needed to produce something special with the ball and all the spinners stepped up to the plate. We bowled well in partnerships and that’s what we needed to do. We have played a lot of ODI cricket through 2021 and that has helped us here,” said Matthews after the game.
