Women's World Cup 2022: Deandra Dottin pulls off a one handed screamer to get rid of Lauren Winfield Hill
Deandra Dotting flew towards her left in the point region to pull off a one handed unbelievable catch
Deandra Dottin took a stunning one-handed grasp to send back opener Lauren Winfield Hill into the dressing room against England in Match 7 of the Women’s World Cup 2022 at the University Oval in Dunedin. Dottin had already shown her class in the first game against New Zealand where she bowled a splendid final over to help her side to victory in a close encounter and her fielding skills came to the fore now
West Indies women batted first and a good opening stand of 81 between Dottin and Hayley Matthews set the tone for a good total to be posted. Dottin was unfortunate to be dismissed through a runout after a hard-earned 31 off 64 deliveries with two fours and a six.
Shemaine Campbell (66) and Chedean Nation (49*) got the side to a decent total of 225 for the loss of 6 wickets in 50 overs. Ecclestone was the pick of the bowlers for England with 3 for 20 in her 10 over spell and bowled four maidens in the process.
Here’s the video of the catch from Deandra Dottin:
West Indies needed an early breakthrough with the ball as the score wasn’t daunting enough and they got that in the form of Shamalia Connell’s bowling. In the first ball of the ninth over, Winfield Hill played a fierce a cut shot into the point region and Dottig literally flew towards her left to pull off a one-handed unbelievable catch. The whole team came running to her to celebrate the wicket and it left the crowd in awe as well.
Meanwhile, defending champions England succumbed to their second defeat by seven runs in the Women’s World Cup 2022 after a spirited effort from the West Indies side. Contributions from Beaumont, Danielle Wyatt, Sophie Dunkley, Sophie Ecclestone were not enough in the end as no batter from England reached the half-century mark.
A brilliant fielding effort alongside some clever bowling sealed the deal for West Indies as they now have gone on to win two games in a row which have turned out to be close nail-biting thrillers.
