WTC Final: Ishant Sharma receives multiple stitches after sustaining hand injury
Ishant Sharma's injury has been deemed as non-serious.
The recently concluded WTC final between India and New Zealand at Southampton saw several things going against Virat Kohli and his men. Even after putting up great shows in the recent past, they failed to stage a respectable show in the marquee event and lost it by eight wickets. In the same light, the team had to bear another traumatic news when it was realized that ace pacer Ishant Sharma has hurt his hand.
Sharma injured his right hand in the high-profile event only which required the application of multiple stitches. However, the nature of the injury has been diagnosed as non-serious and it is being expected that the pacer will return to action before India’s five-match Test series against England in August.
Ishant Sharma is expected to recover in time, reckoned BCCI official
“Ishant has had multiple stitches on his middle and fourth finger in his right hand. However, it is not very serious. The stitches will be off in around 10 days and with six weeks left for the first Test against England, he is expected to recover in time,” said a senior BCCI official as quoted by News18.
Ishant bowled 31.2 overs in the WTC Final and took three wickets to push his team into a respectable spot. However, batting collapse, missed catches on the field, and some other factors put India in a spot of bother and they had to face a big defeat by eight wickets. As of now, all the players have dispersed from their base in Southampton and are allowed to have a 20-day break in the UK itself. They will have to reassemble for England series by July 14.
Players might go for Wimbledon or Euro games
“The squad travelled together to London. From here they can all leave for their respective destinations within the UK for a 20-day break.
“Some of them are tennis fans and if Wimbledon allows spectators, you might see them going for some of the show court matches. A few might be checking out if tickets for the Euro games at Wembley are available,” added the same source.
