Yuvraj Singh practices hard in nets for the Australia match
India and Australia will meet in a crunch do or die match on Sunday and hence all of the Indian players had a very hard and focused net session on Saturday. Australia defeated Pakistan yesterday and with India winning against Bangladesh, this match will decide who will go through to the semi-finals alongside New Zealand, who already qualified for the semis, after winning all of their group matches.
One man who looked extremely focused in the nets was middle order batsman Yuvraj Singh. Yuvraj, who played a gem of an innings against Pakistan, was not amongst the runs against New Zealand or Bangladesh. Yuvi batted in the nets with prime focus and concentration and took throw downs from India’s batting coach Sanjay Bangar.
Another batsman who batted the most in the nets was Ajinkya Rahane who has not had a game in the tournament so far. Yuvraj came into the nets after openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli had practiced. The southpaw batted in alongside MS Dhoni, Rahane and Suresh Raina. Even Ravichandran Ashwin got a good chance to bat for a long time in the nets.
Yuvraj Singh’s practice consisted of hitting the big shots both in the front and behind the wicket. Kohli batted for a good 45-50 minutes before proceeding to have some catching practice. Skipper Dhoni practiced against the slower bowlers and on slow balls even after other batsmen had finished their practice.
Amongst the bowlers who spent the most time bowling where Ashish Nehra, Harbhajan Singh and Mohammad Shami, who is yet to play a game in the tournament. Selectors Vikram Rathour and MSK Prasad were present during the net session as well.
