The Rutherfords have served New Zealand ably in Tests and ODIs. Father Ken Rutherford had a lean start in Tests, a pair on debut and just 12 runs in 7 Tests against West Indies in 1984-85, but he went on to score 3 centuries for the Kiwis. He also captained the Kiwi team for 18 of his 56 Test matches.

His son Hamish did better, he scored a century on debut, 171 against England in 2012-13, but since has been able to score just 50 runs in his next 24 innings.
