Well, this might be surprising given Dube’s poor outing with the ball in the fifth T20I (gave 34 runs in the only over he bowled) and Jadhav’s late cameo (26* in 15 balls including three fours and a six) in the first ODI. The absence of a sixth bowler was felt at Hamilton as Virat Kohli’s men failed to defend despite scoring mammoth 347 runs.

The 34-year-old Jadhav who has been a mainstay in the ODI squad mainly because of his part-time off-spin spells wasn’t provided with an opportunity to bowl in the first ODI. Naturally, the question arises regarding his role and selection in the XI especially with another useful all-rounder who can be the answer to sixth bowler option warming the bench.

Dube who had an off-day at Mount Maunganui has proved his worth with his right-arm-medium-fast spells in the past. The 26-year-old, who has played a solitary ODI so far is capable of bowling the full-quota of ten overs. With the batting line-up looking formidable, this change might provide Men in Blue with an extra option thereby strengthening their bowling attack which suffered a setback at Seddon Park.
