The sport of cricket has evolved over the years with T20 cricket replacing Tests and ODIs as the most popular form of the game. The fans and even a majority of the players prefer playing T20 cricket because of the nature of that format. Since there are not many overs to bat, the batsmen look to slog right from the word ‘go’. This format had made life difficult for the bowlers.

However, in the last few years, the bowlers have come up with some new variations to perplex the batsmen. The knuckle ball and the slower bouncer are just a few examples of it. While the modern-day bowlers keep these weapons in their arsenal, the fans cannot deny the fact a batsman starts feeling uncomfortable if a bowler clocks 150 kmph on the speedometer even in the new era. There is no one who can beat raw pace consistently and India has developed a lot of pacers who can breach this landmark regularly.

Here’s a look at the 5 current Indian fast bowlers who can hit 150 kmph on the speed gun:

1. Jasprit Bumrah

The Ahmedabad-based fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah has quickly become one of the best bowlers of the world because of his unique action and yorker bowling ability. He is the most lethal bowler in white-ball cricket and the speedster has even achieved a lot of success in Test cricket with his pace bowling.

He plays for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL where he will form a partnership with the trio of Lasith Malinga, Trent Boult and Mitchell McClenaghan this year. Bumrah has often bowled deliveries which exceeded the 150 kmph mark.

Although he seemed to be out of touch in the series against New Zealand, the cricket universe expects Bumrah to take the advantage of the pace-friendly conditions and make a heroic comeback in the Test series.

2. Umesh Yadav

While it is one thing to bowl at 150 kmph, it is another to hit the perfect line and length with that pace. Umesh Yadav is one such pacer who can regularly hit the 150 kmph mark however, he often loses control over his deliveries while trying to increase his pace. The fans have seen how the batsmen take him to the cleaners once he loses his touch.

This is the main reason why Yadav has lost his place in the Indian limited-overs team. The selectors have kept in the Test squad where he swings the ball at a blistering pace and he has duly delivered with the red ball.

The right-arm quick has also worked on his batting abilities and has provided solid finishes to the Indian innings in Test cricket. He will look to come back to the ODI and the T20I team with a solid performance in the IPL 2020.

3. Prasidh Krishna

The only uncapped pacer to feature on this elite list of current Indian fast bowlers is Kolkata Knight Riders’ pace bowler, Prasidh Krishna. The right-arm quick from Karnataka had excelled in the 2018 edition of the IPL however, the batsmen dominated him in the 2019 IPL season. Hence, he will be under pressure in IPL 2020.

This year, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have a stellar pace bowling attack with the likes of Andre Russell, Pat Cummins, Lockie Ferguson, Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi present in their squad.

Prasidh Krishna is on the verge of breaking into the Indian team as the Indian skipper Virat Kohli had mentioned during one of his interviews that the selection panel is planning to launch Prasidh as their surprise package in the T20 World Cup 2020.

4. Ishant Sharma

The most experienced name present on this list, Ishant Sharma had returned to form while playing for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2019. While the Ishant Sharma of the 2010s may never come back, the improved version of the Delhite seems to be cementing his spot in the Indian team. He is a regular in the Test team however, he will love to play white-ball cricket at the international level once again.

It has been a long time since Ishant wore the blue jersey for India. The lanky pacer will have the golden opportunity of proving himself as a vital cog in limited-overs cricket by playing well for Delhi Capitals in the 2020 edition of IPL.

In IPL 2019, he bowled two deliveries which clocked 150+ kmph speed on the speedometer hence, he will look to work on his pace, line and length because he has the height to constantly trouble the batsmen with short-pitched deliveries.

5. Mohammed Shami

When Mohammed Shami made his debut for the Indian team, not many expected him to keep his spot for a long time since he was not the fittest on the field. Skipper Virat Kohli has raised the barriers of fitness in the Indian side hence, Shami had to work very hard to keep his place in the team.

The fast bowler was marred by a lot of off-field controversies and there were a lot of tensions in his marriage life. Still, he was able to transform himself and Mohammed Shami 2.0 looks more devastating than ever.

Just like Jasprit Bumrah, Shami is becoming a regular part of the Indian team in all the three formats and his wicket-taking abilities have made him one of the favourites to win the Purple Cap when he dons the Kings XI Punjab jersey in IPL 2020.
