5 Players who took salary cuts during IPL 2022 retentions
IPL 2022 mega auction is likely between December end and the initial phase of January.
2. Punjab Kings – Mayank Agarwal – 2 Cr cut
PBKS has unfortunately been the team that has been deserted by lady luck. They have witnessed everything, right from losing out on playoffs qualification to finishing at the bottom of the table. Just like the previous years, the Kings will be going into the 2022 mega auctions in the hope to revamp their squad. In this process, they retained one of their star players and a potential captaincy candidate – Mayank Agarwal.
With an impressive 1317 runs record in the three years, he has been for the Kings, Mayank’s retention was never in question. Scoring a total of four half-centuries with the highest score of 99 not out and a whopping strike rate nearly hitting 150 this season was enough to assure Punjab a good start in almost all matches from him.
The Indian opener may have been roped in by the Kings as their first retention at 12 crores, but this resulted in him taking a pay cut of 2 crores. Retaining an uncapped player in the form of Arshdeep Singh, PBKS will enter the 2022 auction with the strongest purse of INR 72 crore.
