A team of champion players, match winners, and upcoming stars of modern cricket, Delhi Capitals have managed to tick the boxes across these criteria. Having groomed and scouted one of the top sides in the tournament currently, the management would have faced several sleepless nights while selecting their retentions. Nevertheless, it would have been a rejoicing moment for the fans to see the dashing all-rounder Axar Patel back in the red and blue for Delhi.

An economical bowler and a handy lower-order batter, Axar has been one of DC’s stand-out players. The left-arm all-rounder has trapped 34 wickets in the 41 matches he’s played for them with a striking economy of 6.73. Becoming the first spinner since 2011 to achieve the consecutive man of the match awards was just a cherry on the top for his 2021 season.

With DC’s retentions involving talents in the form of Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, and Anrich Nortje alongside him resulted in Axar with a three-crore pay cut as against the 12 crores he should have received as the 2nd retention for the franchise.
