The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the annual players’ contract for the period starting from October 2019 to September 2020. The world’s richest cricket board put forth the development on Thursday, January 16. The contracts were divided into four groups- Grade A+, Grade A, Grade B and Grade C.

The players in Grade A+ will be receiving a mammoth INR 7 crore. The ones in Grade A, Grade B and Grade C will receive INR 5 crore, INR 3 crore and INR 1 crore respectively.

The most notable omission from the list was that of MS Dhoni, who hasn’t played any cricket since the 2019 World Cup semi-final at the Old Trafford. However, this time around, fortunes favoured a few players as they made their first appearance among the contracted players.

In the article, let’s take a look at India’s new entrants in BCCI’s contract: –

Mayank Agarwal broke into the Test team in December 2018 during India’s tour of Australia. The 28-year-old got a chance after Prithvi Shaw’s ankle injury and failure of the Indian top order. He impressed right away and hasn’t looked back ever since. In nine Test matches, the right-hander has managed 872 runs at an average of 67.07.

He already has three tons and as many fifties to his name. In 2019, he was India’s leading Test run-scorer, having notched 754 runs, averaging 68.54 with a top score of 243 against Bangladesh in Indore.

The Karnataka batter has also been picked in ICC’s Test team of the year where Virat Kohli is the captain. In BCCI’s contract, he has been slotted in a Grade B along with the likes of Wriddhiman Saha, Umesh Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal and Hardik Pandya.
