AB de Villiers hilariously loses his shoe while facing Thando Ntini in 3TC Solidarity match
In the match, ABD entertained the fans with a 24-ball 61.
There’s no doubt that AB de Villiers is one of the colossal figures in world cricket at the present point in time. Though it’s been more than two years since he hung his boots from international cricket, he has continued playing franchise cricket around the world. The audience flock the stadiums whenever the Pretoria-born plies his trade in the middle with the bat in hand.
He recently made a comeback in the 3T Solidarity match, held on July 18 at the SuperSport Park in Centurion. The game marked South Africa’s return to cricket amidst the coronavirus pandemic and was played behind closed doors with all precautionary measures in place. De Villiers didn’t disappoint in the game by any stretch of the imagination, scoring 61 off a mere 24 balls. The blistering knock helped his team, Eagles come out triumphs.
De Villiers involved in a rib-tickling moment
De Villiers was the skipper of the Eagles, who went on to win the Gold Medal. Reeza Hendricks and Temba Bavuma captained the OUTsurance Kingfishers and Mr D Food Kites respectively. All the three teams batted 12 overs in two halves and the Eagles scored the most runs. In the meantime, the retired Proteas batter had a funny moment in the first half of the innings.
Even as he was batting, right-arm fast bowler Thando Ntini, the son of Makhaya Ntini, bowled a full-length delivery and ABD creamed the leather on the leg side. However, while running, he lost his shoes. The commentators burst out in laugher on the moment. The batsman didn’t have troubles though since he completed the run without much of a fuss.
Here’s AB de Villiers’ video:
Recently, there were speculations that De Villiers was planning to make a comeback in the 2020 edition of the T20 World Cup in Australia. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has made sure that the mega event remains under the clouds. The ICC is yet to take a call on the tournament.
Hence, there’s very little clarity on ABD’s comeback at the highest level. In the meantime, he has played for the RCB in the IPL, Lahore Qalandars in the PSL, Brisbane Heat in the BBL, Rangpur Riders in the BPL and Tshwane Spartans in the MSL.
