The Board of control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has scheduled a Special General body Meeting in order to elect a new president. The move comes as somewhat of an emergency following the untimely resignation of Shashank Manohar. The latter was subsequently named as the chairman of the International Cricket Council.

At the moment, the rumors state that Anurag Thakur and Rajiv Shukla will be the front runners for the coveted position. The SGM will be convened over a span of 15 days, and members need to be apprised of the situation. It is the prerogative of the board’s General Secretary (in this case, Anurag Thakur), to call for such a meeting. Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) president, Ajay Shirke is also said to be in contention.

The general secretary of the Goa Cricket Association Vinod Phadke said the SGM will be held on May 22nd with the only listed agenda being the election of a new president. “Yes, we have the SGM on May 22 in Mumbai. The only agenda is the election of the president,” Phadke told PTI.

Shashank Manohar was re-appointed as the president of the BCI following the untimely death of then president Jagmohan Dalmiya. Manohar had served as president during the controversy-plagued years of the board, especially dealing with the fact that N Srinivasan had been appointed the ICC Chairman at the time.

Manohar quit his position barely seven months after being elected as the President of BCCI. He was subsequently elected unopposed as the independent Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), a post he will hold for a period of two years.
