5 current batters who can go close to Sachin Tendulkar's record of 51 Test centuries
In the past, some of the names were considered favourites to shatter the God of Cricket's record of 51 Test tons.
1. Steve Smith
There was a time Steve Smith’s name used to instill fear in the hearts of bowlers in Test cricket. From 2014 to 2017, the Aussie batter won many Test matches for Australia with his robust batting style. In the past few years, he has failed to produce solid innings with his bat. This year, by smashing two centuries against Sri Lanka and West Indies apiece, he has shown that he is still one of the best in Test cricket.
Although to regain his old form, he has to score tons in upcoming competitions against other strong teams also. Discussing his current Test figures, Smith is still regarded as one of the most dangerous batters with 8,416 runs and 29 tons in just 89 matches, at a terrific average of 60.98.
Previously during the brightest phase of his Test career, he was regarded as the biggest contender to shatter Sachin Tendulkar’s Test records, which included Master Blaster’s 51 centuries too. However, after going through the lean phase in his career, it seems almost impossible for him to surpass Tendulkar in terms of most centuries. But looking at his past records in the longest form of cricket, it can’t be ruled out that he could go near the God of Cricket's achievement by smashing 40+ centuries.
