India vs England 2024, 2nd Test - Top player battles to watch out for

India and England are squaring off against each other in a five-match Test Series in the England tour of India. This is one of the most sought-after series in this year’s calendar as India and England lock horns against each other where India would be looking to extend their home domination, while England would looking to challenge the champions. They played against each other in the 1st match of the series at the Rajiv Gandhi Internationa Stadium in Hyderabad where India dominated the first three days but the game turned around from the fourth day onwards and England eventually went on to win the game. England leads the series 1-0 so far while India is eyeing to make a comeback. While it’s a fierce battle between both these teams, there is going to be a good battle between the players individually as well. Let’s take a look at some player battles to watch out for - Rohit Sharma vs James Anderson Rohit Sharma is the skipper of the Indian side and looked really comfortable in both innings of the first Test, despite not reaching a huge total. While subcontinent tracks are known to support spinners, the danger that legendary James Anderson can bring with him due to his timeless abilities can never be sidelined. Anderson has a stellar record in Test cricket (690 wickets), which is second to none, and with India losing the opening Test, Rohit Sharma might be under pressure while facing a timeless legend. Yashasvi Jaiswal vs Tom Hartley Jaiswal started the game aggressively as he played his first innings on the home soil. He especially went behind Tom Hartley, smashing him for runs in his first spell like he was playing T20 cricket. He was eventually removed from the attack due to his continuous bashing by the young left-hander. However, when he came to bowl in the second innings, he seemed like a different bowler. He was much more calm and bowled in the right areas, not allowing Jaiswal to dominate this time around. As fate would have it, Jaiswal was eventually removed by Hartley with a soft dismissal. It would be interesting to see their battle in the next game. Ben Stokes - Ravichandran Ashwin Left-handed batters and Ashwin are a match made in heaven, even defying the great love sagas. Ashwin has mind-boggling numbers when it comes to Test cricket, especially on Indian tracks, but when he is in front of a leftie, then he is a completely different beast altogether. In the second innings of the English side, Stokes was castled yet another time to the offie, making it the historic 12th time. Ashwin has surely made Stokes his bunny, but he is a big-match player who just doesn’t know the meaning of giving up. This surely makes an interesting contest between the two players. Ollie Pope vs Jasprit Bumrah From having one of the worst track records in Tests in India to playing one of the best knocks played on Indian soil by a foreign player, Ollie Pope surely came a long way in the last Test. He has never been able to solve the mystery of the Indian pitches but his way of sweeps and reverse sweeps surely did take him long this time around. He smashed every bowler around, including Jasprit Bumrah but it was eventually Bumrah who made Pope miss out on his double century. His greatness with the ball and cleverness from the T20s made him excel in the last game and the same would be expected of him in this game as well. Ben Stokes vs Jasprit Bumrah Both these players feature in this list twice owing to their great performances in this format over the years. While Stokes is mentioned again, it simply does not mean that his wicket is an easy one to catch rather it takes a masterclass from the bowlers to scalp his number. Jasprit Bumrah bowled one of the best deliveries of Test Cricket history to remove Ben Stokes from the pitch in the first innings of the game. He did manage to inflict good damage to the Indian team before he was sent packing and it would be one of the most interesting battles in the coming match.
