Asia Cup 2023: Rating performances of teams in Group Stage
Some teams dominated the group stage while some found it hard to get going during group stage matches of Asia Cup 2023.
Afghanistan- 5/10
Afghanistan would probably call themselves unlucky as they missed the chance to qualify for the Super 4s by a whisker. There were many expectations from Afghanistan in the tournament as they were seen as a dangerous opponent.
However, they were outplayed in their first match against Bangladesh as Afghan bowlers were taken to the cleaners of a batting-friendly surface in Lahore. Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Najmul Hossain Shanto hammered centuries as Bangladesh posted 334/5.
In response, the Afghan batters faltered with Ibrahim Zadran and Hashmatullah Shahidi hitting fifties. But they couldn’t overhaul the target and lost by 89 runs. However, their heartbreaking moment came against Sri Lanka, when due to a lack of knowledge about qualification rules and how many runs they needed, Afghanistan missed out on Super 4s qualification in a banger of a match.
