IPL 2023: Rating teams based on their batting depth
The rankings are based on certain parameters such as a solid top order, stable middle order and explosive lower order, and also represent the potential each batting unit has.
2. Royal Challengers Bangalore
Returning to Bengaluru after four years, RCB's core was retained for this year’s IPL and we shall see quite a good number of options to choose from while forming the playing 11. Faf Du Plessis and Virat Kohli will be the ones starting their innings, and would look at the availability of Rajat Patidar who would be the ideal no.3 for them. They surely have an option in Suyash Prabhudesai who had a pretty decent SMAT in 2022.
Coming to the middle order, the first choice would be Glenn Maxwell; subject to Maxwell's form, there are options like Michael Bracewell who could come in as an explosive left-handed batsman. As always, RCB have Dinesh Karthik who can be explosive as well as capable of anchoring if there is a batting collapse while being at No.6 . Of the squad, Mahipal Lomror will be ideal at No.5 as a decent left-handed batting option in the top six. RCB could play Shahbaz Ahamad and Wanindu Hasaranga at no.7 and no.8 respectively, to give more depth to the batting.
Looking at this Top 8, there is a perfect blend of explosive power-hitters and batsmen who could anchor the innings. There are also players who could deliver a few overs in bowling as well. Overall, RCB have batting till No.8 if they set up the right combination. On a scale of 1-10, this batting lineup can be given 8.2 / 10.
