IPL: Top 5 finds of Kolkata Knight Riders who went on to play for India
KKR also unearthed gems like Iqbal Abdulla, Manvinder Bisla and Rinku Singh among many others but none of them played for the national team.
3. Varun Chakravarthy
Just like Venkatesh Iyer in 2021, Varun Chakravarthy really impressed everyone in his debut IPL season. His mystery proved really tough for the batters to decipher and with that, he became one of the most dependable bowlers in the KKR camp.
So far, Varun has played 55 matches for the two-time champions and picked up 61 wickets in the process. The spinner had a very poor season last time around, but in IPL 2023, he returned to his absolute best, picking up 20 wickets in 14 matches. However, it was his performance in the 2021 season which gave him a chance to feature in the national team. The spinner was also picked up for the T20 World Cup 2021 based on his performance but couldn’t really do much damage.
The cricketer represented India in six T20I matches before getting dropped. In six matches, the Karnataka-born cricketer picked up only two wickets, and he was never considered again for selection. However, in 2023, he once again impressed the fans and thus, can very well expect a national call if he keeps going in the same manner.
