ODI cricket is a very interesting format of international cricket. While it might be battling for its survival in the modern era, which is being dominated by the T20 format; ODIs have given us many memorable moments.

The ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 has been perhaps the most successful ICC 50-over event. It has everything from a few close matches, some interesting calculations, and utter dominance by hosts India. India, who qualified for the semi-finals, ended the league stage undefeated, winning all 9 of their matches.

In their last match against Netherlands, Rohit Sharma employed a total of 9 bowlers including himself as he didn’t want to risk the frontline bowlers getting hurt unnecessarily. Apart from himself, Rohit gave bowling to Suryakumar Yadav, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli.

And he and Kohli picked a wicket each as well, interestingly these respective wickets of theirs came after a long gap from their last ODI wicket. In this piece, we will see three players who had the longest gap between their two wickets in ODI cricket.

Here are 3 players who have the longest gap between taking wickets in ODIs:

1. Virat Kohli - 9 Years

The wrong-footed, right-arm pace menace Virat Kohli also picked up a wicket in this CWC 2023 match against the Netherlands. Always a keen bowler, Virat Kohli has 5 wickets in his 290-ODI career and his latest one was Netherlands captain Scott Edwards, who was out-caught by KL Rahul down the leg side.

This was Kohli’s first ODI wicket since 2014. On January 31, India had played New Zealand in an ODI in Wellington and then Kohli had dismissed Kiwi captain Brendon McCullum for 23 runs. This meant Kohli took an ODI wicket 9 years after taking his previous scalp in the format.
