T20 World Cup 2022: 5 Indian players who might not feature in T20Is again
After India's disappointing campaign at the ongoing T20 extravaganza in Australia, certain players might not be in the team's scheme of things going forward.
1. Rohit Sharma
Rohit is one of the greatest white-ball cricketers India has produced. In the T20Is, he has been India's lynchpin at the top of the order and amassed an insane tally of 3853 runs in 148 matches at a strike rate of 139.24. However, the Nagpur-born was a pale shadow of his vintage self at the ongoing marquee tournament.
The veteran batter featured in six games and could just manage 116 runs at a mediocre strike rate of 106.42. Rohit’s poor outings meant India struggled to get brisk starts on a consistent basis. Also, the right-hand batter, who has been touted to be an astute tactician of the game, was not at his best in marshaling his troops.
Aged 35, Rohit is in the twilight of his career and his form and fitness might not hold up till the next T20 World Cup in 2024. Therefore, India could move in a new direction in the shortest format. Also, with the next two ICC tournaments being the 2021-2023 World Test Championship final and the 50-over World Cup 2023, the think tank might want the Indian skipper to focus on the ODIs and Tests. Hence, one might not see ace Indian batter play T20Is going forward.
