T20 World Cup 2022: 5 Rule Changes that will be game-changing in the tournament

The 2022 T20 World Cup is just a few weeks away and most of the top cricketing nations are indulging themselves in playing T20 cricket to prepare for the tournament. The host nation Australia has also started gearing up for the mega event. 

Meanwhile, the International Cricket Council (ICC) on September 20 made several changes to its playing conditions which will come into effect from October 1. Hence, the new rules will be applied in the upcoming 2022 T20 World Cup. On that note, let us take a look at five such rules which can have a say in a match. Let us begin:

5. Unfair movement from the fielding side

The ICC in its new rule has stated that any "unfair and deliberate movement" by the fielders while the bowler is in his delivery stride could now result in the umpire awarding five penalty runs to the batting side, in addition to a call of dead ball.

One such moment which can be recalled for this new rule was when Australian batter Steve Smith took the catch of Pakistani batter Fawad Alam during an ODI match played at the Abu Dhabi Stadium in 2014. 

Smith, fielding at slips, realized that Fawad Alam was set to play a sweep shot and quickly ran towards the leg slip where he completed a brilliant catch. Even though Fawad was given out by the on-field umpires, Smith received a lot of criticism for moving before the bowler bowled his delivery.
