T20 World Cup 2022: Team-wise players who were hit in IPL 2022 but couldn't make it to national squad
Some of the cricketers who played really well in the IPL 2022 season failed to make it to their national squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Indian Premier League is one of the most competitive T20 tournaments in the world at the moment. It is an event where top cricketers from around the world assemble and battle it out among each other.
IPL has given a platform to T20 superstars of different countries to display their prowess with the bat and ball and also allowed emerging players to showcase their talent to the world. The players who excel in such a high-profile tournament are considered ready for the international stage.
However, the announcement of all the national squads for the T20 World Cup 2022 saw some cricketers, who have proven their mettle in the most lucrative T20 league in the world failing to break into their respective sides. Let us look at some names who were a hit in IPL 2022 but have not been selected for the marquee event by their respective boards:
10. Ruturaj Gaikwad - Chennai Super Kings
Ruturaj Gaikwad has been a run machine for the Chennai Super Kings in the last couple of years. The opening batter was the top run-getter of the tournament in the 2021 season and was instrumental to CSK's title victory that year. He also fared well in the recently culminated edition of the IPL.
The 25-year-old accumulated 368 runs in 14 games at a strike rate of 126.46. Gaikwad played the anchor role well and enabled power hitters around him to play with freedom. He has shown his versatility to change gears when required and has taken even the top-bowling attacks apart.
However, Gaikwad failed to put on a string of impressive performances in the international arena when he was presented with the opportunities. The dashing stroke-maker could only score 135 runs across nine T20I games at a strike rate of 123.85. The Maharashtra batter's ordinary T20I performances put him out of contention for a World Cup spot.
