Top 10 Under19 women players who have already played international cricket

After a long wait, the inaugural edition of the Women’s Under-19 World Cup will be played this year in the T20 format from January 14 to January 29. The tournament was originally scheduled to be held in January 2021 but was pushed due to COVID-19. However, after two years, the tournament will be played involving 16 teams in South Africa. Talking about the Women in Blue, they are a part of Group D, which includes the hosts South Africa, Scotland, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In the India Under-19 Women’s squad, the selectors have included two names who could use their marvellous international experience and guide other young girls in the team and win the title. Some of the other teams have also followed a similar path and included some experienced international players who could be excellent for them in the forthcoming competition. Below are some international players who will feature in the upcoming Women's Under-19 World Cup 10. Vishmi Gunaratne (Sri Lanka) Last year, Vishmi Gunaratne made her debut for the senior team when Sri Lanka took on Scotland in the Commonwealth Games Women's Cricket Competition Qualifiers. This year, she will be seen leading the Sri Lanka Under-19 cricket team in the inaugural U19 World Cup. In the team, her role will be to provide blistering starts to her team as an opener. Counting on her international experience and skills, the team will also look forward to getting some impactful performances from her. For the 17-year-old Gunaratne, this World Cup will be an opportunity to showcase her skills. So far, Gunaratne has played nine Women’s T20I games for Sri Lanka, in which she has scored 104 runs at a strike rate of 75.91. She has played two WODIs too. 9. Aroob Shah (Pakistan) Last month, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) appointed Aroob Shah as the skipper for their Women’s U19 World Cup campaign. In the squad, she will be seen bolstering the spin attack of Pakistan along with Quratulain Ahsen, Anosha Nasir, and Mahnoor Aftab. The 19-year-old Shah has also represented the senior women’s team in two WODIs and five WT20Is. In 2019, she made her debut in international cricket with her first appearance in an ODI game against Bangladesh. In the same year, she also debuted for Pakistan Women’s Team in Women’s T20 Internationals. In the upcoming tournament, Pakistan will expect her to lead from the front and lift the trophy. In the competition, Pakistan is included in Group B along with England, Zimbabwe, and Rwanda. On January 17, the Women in Green will lock horns with England at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom. In that match, Aroob will look forward to using her brief international experience as a weapon to outclass the opponents. 8. Theertha Satish (United Arab Emirates) Last month, the Emirates Cricket Board named wicket-keeper batter Theertha Satish as their skipper for the Under-19 World Cup. In 2021, she debuted for the UAE senior women’s team and has played 33 T20I matches thus far. Showing her brilliance with the bat, the wicket-keeper batter has notched up 823 runs with six half-centuries at a strike rate of 109.58. In the ACC Women’s T20 Championship played in Malaysia last year, the left-hander looked magnificent with 170 runs in six matches at a strike rate of 113.33. Her batting efforts played a vital role in the success of the UAE. In the final game too, Satish smashed 55 runs off 42 deliveries against Malaysia to take her team home comfortably. Considering her vast experience and talent, the U19 team will also need her to have a blast in the forthcoming competition. 7. Amy Hunter (Ireland) Talented Amy Hunter has been assigned the responsibility to lead Ireland’s Under-19 World Cup team. In the past, she has showcased her potential a lot of times with her colossal batting figures. The 17-year-old right-hander is active in international cricket since 2021. Playing for Ireland’s senior team, she has amassed 294 runs in 11 WODI matches at a strike rate of 89.90. In 2021, she scored her maiden century against Zimbabwe on her 16th birthday. With this ton, she also became the youngest centurion in the history of women’s cricket, breaking Indian batter Mithali Raj’s record. Going through Hunter’s impressive batting figures in international contests, Cricket Ireland trusted her to lead the team in the upcoming marquee event. In the tournament, the Irish team is in Group C along with New Zealand, West Indies, and Indonesia. 6. Isabella Gaze (New Zealand) Isabella Gaze has been included in New Zealand’s Women’s Under-19 World Cup team. Noting Gaze’s international experience and capability, the New Zealand cricket Board included her in the squad for the competition. So far, Gaze has appeared in 13 international games for the Black Caps and racked up 42 runs. Along with her, Fran Jonas and Georgia Plimmer are also included in the squad due to their international experience. At the Commonwealth Games held last year, Gaze was an integral part of the team. As her batting numbers in international matches are not brilliant, the World Cup could emerge as a confidence booster for her. In the upcoming competition, she will look forward to coming up with some fine scores with her batting potential. 5. Georgia Plimmer (New Zealand) New Zealand have picked up Georgia Plimmer for the upcoming ICC Women’s Under-19 World Cup. Last year was lucky for her as she got a chance to make her international debut for the White Ferns. The 18-year-old got a chance to play both formats of the sport for her national team. Till Now, her batting performance has not been up to the mark as she has amassed only 51 runs in 10 WT20Is at a strike rate of 85.00. In WODIs too, Plimmer is yet to deliver her best as she has scored only 17 runs in one innings of three matches at a strike rate of 53.12. However, her presence in the Under-19 World Cup competition might help New Zealand to clinch the title. Using her brief international experience, Plimmer could help the team in outplaying the opponents as she has represented New Zealand in Commonwealth Games 2022 and ICC Women’s World Cup 2022. In the tournament, New Zealand are placed in Group C, where they will contest with Ireland, West Indies, and Indonesia. 4. Fran Jonas (New Zealand) Along with Plimmer and Gaze, Fran Jonas will also add strength to New Zealand's Under-19 World Cup team. In the squad, Jonas will be the most experienced player as she has featured in 23 international games for the White Ferns. Appearing for the senior team in the Commonwealth Games 2022, she played four matches and took three wickets at an economy of 5.75. Earlier, she was included in the senior squad for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 too. However, she got a chance to appear in one game only, in which she went wicketless. In the forthcoming Under-19 tournament matches, Jonas will lead the bowling attack of the Under-19 team. In the tournament, New Zealand are one of the favourites to qualify for the semi-final stage. 3. Kelis Ndlovu (Zimbabwe) Kelis Ndlovu will lead the Zimbabwe Under-19 Women's team in the forthcoming marquee tournament. Relying on her impressive all round figures in senior T20I matches, Zimbabwe Cricket gave her the captaincy mantle. With 285 runs in 15 WT20I matches at a strike rate of 87.69, Ndlovu looked efficient with the bat for Zimbabwe's senior team. With the ball, she has claimed 15 wickets at an outstanding economy of 4.91. In the Under-19 World Cup matches, the Zimbabwe Under-19 team will revolve around her due to her capability. Zimbabwe are included in Group B, which features Rwanda, Pakistan, and England. In the tournament, Ndlovu and her girls will have to play out of their skin to qualify for the next round. On January 15, 2023, Zimbabwe will clash with England at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom. 2. Richa Ghosh (India) In February 2020, Richa Ghosh made her international debut for India against Australia in a T20I match. In the same year, she got selected for the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. So far, she has notched up 427 runs in 30 WT20I matches at a strike rate of 134.27. In WODIs also, her record has been brilliant for the Women in Blue as she has scored 311 runs in 17 games at a strike rate of 84.97. The wicket-keeper batter has also hit a couple of half-centuries. Noting her fine numbers with the bat, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) awarded her a central contract in May 2021. In the most-anticipated Under-19 Women’s World Cup ahead, she will be an important member of the team. With her batting and wicket-keeping, Ghosh will be vital for the team in outclassing the opponents. 1. Shafali Verma (India) Shafali Verma will lead India in the Under-19 World Cup to be played in South Africa. The 18-year-old will provide power to India with her batting skills. Along with Richa Ghosh, Verma will be pivotal to providing balance to the Indian team in the World Cup. Both players will bolster the team’s chances in the tournament with their exceptional batting talent. In 2019, Shafali debuted in international cricket at the age of 15, playing against South Africa in a WT20I match. Since then, the fearless opening batter has accumulated 1,231 runs in 51 WT20Is at a strike rate of 134.53. In the recently concluded Australia Women's tour of India, she showcased her batting potential again racking up 140 runs in five matches at a sensational strike rate of 134.61. As the skipper, she will also strive to lead the team from the front and deliver stunning batting displays to lift the trophy.
