3. Virat Kohli fake fielding row

The Men in Blue held their nerves to win a thrilling contest by five runs against Bangladesh in the Super 12 match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. After India’s victory, Bangladesh wicket-keeper Nurul Hasan sparked a controversy by saying that his team should have been awarded five penalty runs as Virat Kohli faked a throw.

The incident, Nurul was referring to, happened during the seventh over of Bangladesh’s innings, before the rain interruption. On the second delivery of the seventh over, Litton Das played a shot towards the left of sweeper cover. Arshadeep, who was deployed there received the ball and threw it back but at the same time, Kohli also feigned a shy at the stumps.

Enraged by the incident, many Bangladesh fans targetted the umpires for being biased and not penalising India for the fake fielding incident. Citing the MCC law, the supporters of the Bangla Tigers also went on to say that the delivery bowled by Axar should’ve been declared dead and the umpires should’ve awarded five penalty runs to their team as Kohli with his action tried to distract both the batters in the middle.
