WPL 2023: 5 Indian batters to watch out for
Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Giants will lock horns in the first match on March 4 at 7:30 pm. All matches of the tournament will be played in Mumbai.
3. Jemimah Rodrigues
Jemimah Rodrigues fetched INR 2.2 crore from Delhi Capitals and became the fourth most-expensive player at the WPL auction. Along with DC, the 22-year-old succeeded in attracting franchises such as UPWI and MI as well, who raised their paddles to bid for her services. In the forthcoming competition, DC will look forward to getting match winning innings from her, similar to the ones she has so far delivered for India.
In the Women’s T20 World Cup, she looked exceptional with the bat. At the marquee event, the youngster smashed 129 runs in five games, at a decent strike rate of 135.78. Rodrigues will now strive to continue her form in WPL and make a huge contribution to her franchise, helping them clinch the title.
The stylish right-handed batter has a magnificent record in league cricket as well. In the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) and The Hundred Competition (Women), she has been an important member of her respective teams. Playing the seventh edition of the WBBL in 2021, she also became the second-highest run-getter for Melbourne Renegades with 333 runs in 13 matches at a strike rate of 116.43.
