IND vs PAK: Wasim Akram's bold T20 World Cup prediction, Waqar Younis shares his two cents
Despite Pakistan's recent struggles, Waqar believes Babar Azam and his team have what it takes to win.
The cricket world is buzzing with anticipation as India and b prepare to face off in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. This isn't just another match; it's a clash of titans, a rivalry steeped in history and passion. As both teams gear up for this high-voltage encounter in the USA, opinions on who will emerge victorious are divided.
Pakistan legends Waqar Younis and Wasim Akram have weighed in with their predictions. Despite Pakistan's recent struggles, Waqar believes Babar Azam and his team have what it takes to win. On the other hand, Akram gave the edge to India, citing their form and consistency. He believes India are generally a better team and favors them to win, giving India a 60% chance and Pakistan 40%, but acknowledged that in T20 cricket, the game can change quickly with one good performance.
"My heart says Pakistan but from what I've seen so far in this tournament the pitch in New York is very much for the faster bowlers. So, it evens it out a little bit just purely because of the surface in New York," said Waqar Younis on Star Sports.
"If we look at India's form, India generally is a better team. Better team in a way that they're favourites heading into that game. I will give 60% to India and 40% to Pakistan. But, it's T20I, one good innings, one good spell, the game can change quickly. I think everybody is looking forward to the game of the tournament," Akram gave his opinion on the high-octane game.
Notably, India and Pakistan have contrasting starts in the tournament. The Men in Blue dominated Ireland in their opening match, while the Green Shirts faced an unexpected defeat to co-hosts, USA. This disparity has added more fuel to the debate on which team will triumph in their upcoming clash.
Team India have an edge over Pakistan in World Cups
Historically, India have the upper hand in T20 World Cup encounters against Pakistan. Out of seven matches, Pakistan have only managed to secure one victory. However, that lone win in 2021, thanks to a stellar performance by Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, proves that anything can happen in cricket.
