Indian kipper Rohit Sharma has shed light on the condition of star opener Shubman Gill, who is currently battling a bout of dengue fever. Gill's health scare has raised concerns about his availability for India's first clash against Australia in Chennai, scheduled for Sunday, October 8.

Gill, who has been in sensational form in 2023, particularly in the One-Day Internationals (ODIs), amassing a staggering 1230 runs with an incredible five centuries, stands as a linchpin in the Indian batting lineup. The prospect of his absence looms ominously, casting a shadow of uncertainty over the Men in Blue. However, Rohit, emphasized the importance of the 24-year-old's well-being over immediate returns to the field.

"Gill is not feeling well, giving him every chance to see how he feels. Not ruled out yet. Shubman Gill is sick, I feel for him. I want him to be well. As a human being first, not as captain. He is a young boy, has fit body and he will recover,“ Rohit clarified.

He also mentioned that they have a crucial 36-hour window to monitor his condition closely, with the medical team monitoring him. When inquired about the India opener's potential inclusion in the playing eleven, Dravid asserted that the medical team has not yet ruled him out of the reckoning.
