Exclusive: 'Success they've achieved is three years of work' - Nepal head coach Monty Desai analyses India's T20 World Cup 2024 campaign

Nepal head coach Monty Desai expressed his happiness for Rahul Dravid after the former India captain coached the Men in Blue to the T20 World Cup title last month. Desai also analysed how India planned well in advance for the marquee event and used their resources to a nicety.

India were a force to reckon with at the T20 World Cup 2024, which was jointly-hosted by the West Indies and the USA. Under Rohit Sharma's astute leadership, the Asian giants remained unbeaten in the tournament and eventually lifted the title after beating South Africa in a nerve-wracking final in Barbados by seven runs. After India's spectacular campaign, fans and experts have been effusive in their praise for Rohit and Co. and Desai is the latest to jump on the bandwagon.

"The BCCI leadership group, the NCA, the kind of staff, professionalism that they bring in now, [and] of course, the vision of two leaders, Rohit and Rahul, what they were able to put it together [was impressive]. They've obviously spoken about this that probably the success that they've achieved is a story of three years of work in place," Desai said in an exclusive interview with CricTracker.

"Very tactically use of resources like Axar Patel, Shivam Dube. Great man, Virat Kohli coming forward most important game in the finals. Rohit, the kind of cricket which he has been playing right from 2023 ODI World Cup. Very, very happy for, especially for Rahul Dravid; he's an outstanding human being. I've seen how he conducts himself at his home and I was lucky to be invited to his home a couple of times and have some casual chats like family members," he added.

Meanwhile, Nepal lost three games at the World Cup, while one was washed out. However, they gave a good account of themselves and put experienced teams like Bangladesh and South Africa under pressure. Rohit Paudel's side lost to the Proteas by one run and to Bangladesh by 21 runs. Their other defeat came against the Netherlands by six wickets.

Under Desai's inspirational coaching, the future looks bright for Nepal, who also have a passionate fan base supporting them through thick and thin.
