You won't see Kohli, Rohit or Rahul play T20Is, things will change in the next 90 days: Aakash Chopra

The T20 style of cricket is evolving rapidly, and league games like the IPL have been proof of it. When it comes to batting, players who anchor the innings are gradually losing their relevance as assessments like strike rate and boundary rate gain greater significance when evaluating a batter's potential in the format.

Questions concerning the futures of current Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, former skipper Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul are becoming more and more pertinent, especially when the IPL 2023 has presented the Indian squad with a wealth of such choices. Ravi Shastri had recently opined that the team must look past the three senior pros, and similar sentiments were expressed by Aakash Chopra when he gave a deadline of "90 days."

When asked about KL Rahul's future in the shortest format of the game in light of Yashasvi Jaiswal's ascent and the availability of options like the other centurion Shubman Gill and Mumbai opener Ishan Kishan, Chopra, an IPL expert on Jio Cinema, echoed Shastri's opinions.

He acknowledged that it would be challenging for players like Rohit, Kohli, and Rahul to adapt to the format if India continued to play the aggressive brand of cricket in the T20I format that they had committed to play in the previous T20 World Cup.

"I won't see his (Rahul's) case to be in isolation in any way, to begin with. I feel the next generation of cricketers for this format is almost getting ready and the previous generation of players will find it increasingly difficult to be a part of the new template. If India, as they said in the last T20 World Cup that they are looking for a new template to play T20 cricket in, continue to play in the same fashion, you will see a lot of the previous generation players not being part of the T20 scheme of things," Chopra told Hindustan Times.

"This is an ODI World Cup year so anyway India will be playing fewer T20I games in the remaining year, but whatever matches they play, I don't think you will see Kohli, Rohit or Rahul play. You don't even know when Rahul will actually be available. That is why I'm saying, things will change in the next 90 days," Chopra added.
