Team India (IND) and New Zealand (NZ) will clash against each other in the grand final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Notably, the final will be played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium (DICS) on Sunday, March 9, in Dubai.

The Blue Brigade will be playing their fifth match at this stadium in this tournament, while it will be the second match for New Zealand. The two teams did win their respective semifinals, but only one team did it emphatically.

India had to fight for every inch that they took in their semifinal against Australia. Rohit Sharma and Co. managed to restrict Australia's advances in the powerplay back during the middle overs. Steve Smith kept the Kangaroos afloat. Alex Carey then provided the necessary momentum in the death overs. But his runout resulted in a loss of momentum as the Indian team clawed back into the game.

In the run chase, the Men in Blue lost two wickets in the powerplay, but the chase master Virat Kohli took control of the match the way he does it best. Kohli stitched important stands with Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel and KL Rahul and made sure that the increasing asking rate never actually put India under pressure. Thereafter, Hardik Pandya came in to clean up shop with timely sixes to take India to the final.

New Zealand on the other hand, had an easier time against South Africa at Lahore. Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson made centuries before Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips steered them to the highest total in Champions Trophy history. Temba Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen got a partnership going, but they were too slow and the increasing asking got the better of the Proteas. David Miller though, looked unfazed and blasted the fastest century in tournament history while fighting a battle he knew was lost.

India and New Zealand also faced each other in Dubai exactly one week before the final in what was the last group-stage match of the tournament. In that game, the Asian side were suffered some early jolts, but Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel played an important hand in digging India out of the hole. Hardik Pandya tried to reel India back in with his explosive death overs batting, but Matt Henry's fifer kept the Blue Brigade in check.

India's spinners eventually took over the proceedings exercising great control on the batters. Kane Williamson's fifty tried to bring New Zealand back from a slow start, but the Kiwis succumbed to the ever-increasing asking rate with Varun Chakravarthy's fifer doing most of the damage.

The pitch which is to be used for the Champions Trophy final is reportedly the same which was used for Pakistan versus India group match. However, given the occasion, it will be a fresh strip, unlike the league stage match. The preferred option will still be to chase on the slow surface, but the Men in Blue haven't lost any of the 10 matches they have played in this stadium so far.
