A composed batting performance from Will Young and Tom Latham, followed by a stellar bowling display from Mitchell Santner, handed New Zealand a 99-run win over the Netherlands in match No. 6 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
The Netherlands won the toss and elected to field. Devon Conway and Will Young gave New Zealand a solid start, putting on 63 runs in the powerplay. However, van der Merwe broke the partnership, dismissing Conway for 32. Will Young and Rachin Ravindra added 77 runs for the second wicket, but Young was dismissed after scoring 70. Skipper Scott Edwards (30) and Sybrand Engelbrecht (29) also made contributions, but the rest of the Netherlands batting lineup collapsed. They were bowled out for 223, all out. Mitchell Santner was named the Player of the Match for his all-round performance, scoring 36 off 17 balls and taking five wickets for 59 runs.
